Cleaning Tip Tuesday: The Importance of Cleaning The Sides of the Toilet

Cleaning the sides of your toilet can be a bit tricky due to tight spaces and the potential for buildup. By mastering this area you will bring a noticeable difference to your bathroom ensuring both the inside and the outside of the toilet are spotless. Here are some effective tips to cleaning the sides of your toilet.

1. Gather Your Supplies: you will need an all-purpose cleaner and/or disinfectant, paper towels/microfiber cloth you don’t mind using for the toilets, an old toothbrush, and rubber gloves.

2. Apply Cleaner: Spray your cleaner around the sides of the toilet, focusing on areas with visible stains or buildup. If you don’t want to get cleaner all over your floor we suggest spraying your towel first, then wipe down. Remember do not forget the surfaces of the draining pipe that is on each side of the toilet by starting at the top and working your way down (if your toilet has these pipes showing). Let it sit for a few minutes or seconds to help the buildup get soft.

3. Paper Towels/microfiber cloth and old toothbrush: You can also use an old toothbrush for tight spots, around the bolts and mounting caps, or the lining where the toilet meets the floor. Use a paper towel or microfiber cloth to rewipe down the sides and around the toilet.

4. Regular Maintenance: To make cleaning easier in the future, consider doing a quick wipe-down weekly to prevent buildup.

5. Disinfect: Finish by using disinfecting wipes on the outer surfaces of the toilet, including the handle to make sure everything is sparkly clean and disinfected from any germs.

Remember, maintaining the cleanliness of your toilet's exterior is essential for a hygienic and inviting bathroom environment. By following these simple steps—gathering the right supplies, applying cleaner effectively, utilizing tools like an old toothbrush for hard-to-reach areas, and establishing a regular cleaning routine—you can significantly reduce buildup and keep your toilet looking spotless. Don't forget to finish off with disinfecting wipes to ensure that all surfaces are germ-free. With a little effort and consistency, your bathroom will not only look great but also promote a healthier living space.

When cleaning your home one very important part is cleaning the toilets. When it come to toilet cleaning on of the most often missed spots is the sides of your toilet. Do not forget to clean the sides of your toilet for a deep cleaning!
